Wizards turn Green, the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Amphibian Friends, and The End of Days??

Hi all!
Been a bit of time since we updated the front page so I thought I’d drop a line to you all. With 3 Day training (which we should’ve been doing more of frankly…) and the usual nuttiness, we haven’t had too much time to update. We’re sorry for that
. But such is life and I’m anticipating things will look a little more flexible once we get back from the 3 Day.
Hopefully this will tide you over in the mean time
.
First up, I’m only on page 200 of the new Harry Potter (I know, I’m a painfully slow reader) but so far, the book is moving at a break neck pace, LOTS of loose ends are being tied, and it’s appearing to be a fitting ending to a pretty cool series of books. Mel and I haven’t been uber fans of the series but we have enjoyed them and the movies quite a bit. They make us smile and now a’days that’s pretty damn priceless.
One thing that I’ve been really impressed with in this final installment in the series is the eco friendly edge they took with the printing of it.
Here’s why:
- Sustainable paper. Of the 16,700 tons of paper used in the first printing of the final book, 65% was certified by the the Forest Stewardship Council as sustainably harvested.
- Setting an example for the publishing industry. U.S. book publishers use 20 million trees per year, so moving to greener paper is a big deal.
If that wasn’t cool enough or an industry first, I’ve got a little treasure hunt for you! If you can find the “Deluxe Edition” of the book definitely pick up. Here’s why!
They only printed 100,000 of these and the book itself is pretty expensive coming in at a hefty 45 bucks roughly. But aside from piece of mind, you also get extra art work, hard cover, full color pictures inside, and a decorative hard cover box-like sleeve to put your book in…. Ok, soooo maybe that isn’t enough to cover the extra beans you need to scrape up. But if you’re looking to support a movement in the publishing industry that hopefully will catch on, seek one of these editions out. I found 4 sitting on the shelf at my local Super Target.
Next up! Garden update.
The big boy tomatoes are finally blushing! I know you’ve heard it in the various sections of this site, but our veggie garden has been one of the shining highlights of the year so far! We didn’t really know much about gardening but we’re ecstatic that everything grew so well! Definitely going to have way too much food though, so we’re going to teach ourselves to can a bunch and whatever is left over we’ll give to family, friends, or coworkers. It’s just an amazing little garden that just kept giving and made us feel really great. We’re already looking forward to next year’s crop! I can’t recommend a little garden to you all enough. Get your green thumb on!!!!
We also keep getting new tenants in our back yard. Check out this little guy!
He changes color right before your eyes to blend in with his environment! I watched him go from green to white the other day. Cute little bugger ain’t he?
Last but not least, it looks like the end of days are upon us. I walked outside last week to find a wall of fire coming towards me!!!
Then I realized that summer is only just starting to head towards the exit. These are taken from our front porch and though they don’t do the real sight justice, they give you an incredible example of a classic Carolina sunset.
That’s about it! Keep us in your thoughts as we stomp through another 60 miles to fight breast cancer! We’re bringing the laptop with us on vaca but we may not be able to update the site until we get back. We’ll see.
Take care and all the best,
Tad
