Hot enough for ya?

Holy crap has it been hot down here! Hottah than blue blazes!
We got a couple of passing showers in the last 24 hours but not nearly enough to pull us out of the serious drought that we (as well as much of the US) are in currently. Looks like it might break next week though dipping down into mid to high 80’s which ain’t much, but it’s much better than the high 90’s and low 100’s we’ve been witnessing!
My rain barrel’s empty! It’s just depressing dammit!
The garden’s taken a pretty hefty hit because of it, killing off our cukes and squash for good, turning our tomato plants from a lush green to a gangrene (though they’re still producing god bless ‘em) and every time we get home from work lately all the plants are slightly wilting. We hit them with the hose and they perk back up, but then the next day is hotter than the day before and we come home to more of the same.
<sigh> We simply can’t keep up!
Like I said though, next week’s looking better. Let’s just hope the predicted temp drop delivers the rain like it’s forecasted to.
What else? Oh!
I finally found the time to finish the last Harry Potter book (feels weird to finally say that) and I have to say, even if you’re not a fan, you can’t deny that it’s a damn fine accomplishment for Rowling. A lot of people hate her writing style and I’m not sure how I feel about it myself. All I know is that her stories are whimsical and the entire Potter series has made me laugh and smile genuinely over the years. For me, that priceless, as I often read a lot of morbid stuff, so it’s been good to have that escape every once and a while.
Mel’s reading it right now, so I can’t say much. I will say that it is a satisfying close. That’s even after hearing all the hype and witnessing all of the hoopla. It’s not a happy book at all, but it is a fitting ending and worthwhile for those who have read along all these years. Moving on.
The kids…
The dogs have been doing okay. Mathias is definitely having “control” issues with his southern hemisphere. But he’s been doing all right in the consistency department ever since we started him on his daily canned pumpkin regimen. So, at least the clean ups haven’t been so traumatic to deal with. I feel so sorry for the big guy, even though, for the most part, he seems incredibly happy. It’s really all we can ask for at his age. I do wish he was better. I hate to think about him spending his elder years in this state.
I guess that’s about it! With friends visiting last weekend, we still haven’t completely unpacked from our New England trip two weeks ago! So, that said, we’re looking forward to some downtime this weekend, maybe see a movie, and just staying cool.
Hope your weekend is the same and more,
Tad
