A rare post from mel….

And I promise I won’t talk about knitting, at least, not too much.

Somehow, I actually sold a few knitting patterns in 2007 – and though it amounted to all of a few dollars, it means I have to claim the income on my taxes and therefore seems to lend some legitimacy to the whole knitting thing (in addition to the crazy side benefit of being able to write off yarn!!). Suffice it to say that I won’t be quitting my day job, BUT, I do spend a fair bit of time brainstorming design ideas, blogging, photographing yarn etc. – boring stuff to your non knitter, so why am I posting about it here instead of over at Purling Plans? Because my main tech support in these endeavors is none other than my dear Tad – and he helped me do something pretty cool this week that we’ve been wanting to utilize here on tadandmel.com!

I’d been wanting to put together some video tutorials for my patterns, and last weekend with my new handy-dandy DIY photo lightbox and digital camera I made some movies. Then the techno-skullduggery ensued as I attempted to do some editing and converting and the billion little steps relating to posting them up on my site. I would have been dead in the water if it had been just me working on it (let’s face it, I wouldn’t even have my own website if it weren’t for Tad). I won’t bore you with all the gory details – But thanks to his techie-brain and tenacity, after MUCH ado, I now have CLEAR videos on my site. Again, pretty dull stuff for the non-knitter, but you get a great close up of my hands. Whatever. Anyway, I think he wanted this to work more than I did, and that’s something. So now I can offer better pattern support, And now that we’ve figured it out, it gives us lots of fun options that we’ve been talking about for tadandmel.com too – he he!

Anyway, it seems like we’ve been pretty busy so far this year and we’re a little behind in our hiking posts too, at least one trip slipped by us this fall before Mathias’s downturn and did not get blogged. He’s thankfully doing miles better now though (thanks to his new vet, and to my friend Kathryn for recommending her), so we are planning to resume the local hiking series soon.

Hope you all are well and enjoying the start of the new year!

hugs, mel
