May’s Been One Hell of a Month…

Between work, after hours activities and everything in between, we’ve been hella busy!  Here are the bright spots!  Mel’s site, purlingplans.com, is steadily moving forward to it’s newer incarnation.  Currently, she’s on the phone with a top secret operative working on getting her Summer Sky pattern wrangled into its “2.0” status.  We’ve also been working on the revamp of her site (new logo and everything!!) when we have the spare time.

So, lot’s going on there for her/us.

Me?

I’ve been full steam ahead lately with finishing up the first draft of a screenplay I’ve been working on with a good friend mine that we’re co-authoring.  It’s coming out great and I couldn’t be happier with the situation and what we’re creating!  I never imagined a collaboration effort would’ve ever been in the cards as it’s never been my style, but it’s been really awesome and incredibly rewarding for me.  Definitely cool and definitely time consuming!

The garden’s been coming along nicely.  We’ve been incredibly surprised/lucky with how well planting from seeds has worked out this year!  I do wish the tomato buckets were doing a little better, but they’ll come along!  Everything else is doing wonderfully though!  In fact, just last night we cooked a dish up that used some of the kale you see going crazy in the front bed there.

Also, it looks like our rain barrel setup is going to be just perfect!  We haven’t emptied one yet and we keep getting rain on a semi weekly basis so it appears we’re in business for the foreseeable future!  Can’t beat free water recycled rain water!

Not everything’s all roses though.

We were having sunlight issues, so last weekend I had to cut down some tree limbs that were blocking some vital sunshine from hitting the beds in the afternoon.  The limb extraction went well, but not without some risk.  Needless to say, they were pretty high up there.

Don’t worry, Melinda was holding the ladder.

As I mentioned last post, the Golf is back on the road!  It’s been a couple weeks now and she’s still running strong!  We’re going to be shifting her back to B100 in the next week and we’ll just have to wait and see how she holds up.  It’ll be a good test on the new used fuel pump we installed recently, so wish us luck!

Also on the biodiesel front, I’ve signed up for home brewing classes for the next two weekends!  They’re being held at the Coop I’m a member of out of Pittsboro/Moncure, NC, and it’s actually kinda special as they are being taught by Maria ‘Mark’ Alovert or, “GirlMark” as she’s referred to in the biodiesel community.  She’s somewhat legendary in the grassroots home-brewing movement and I feel pretty lucky to spend some time with her!  Hopefully I’ll come away a pro and start making my own fuel when all is said and done!

The dogs are fine, it’s pretty precious actually, they’re starting to show their age, getting the little light brown hairs below their eyes.  Mathias is extra whiney nowadays and  Cadence shows no signs of stopping!  Literally, aside from when she’s sleeping, she is an inferno of energy.   It just doesn’t make sense.

That’s about it for now, we’re off to see some friends for lunch and tonight we’re heading to Raleigh for an engagement party!  Some good friends are finally tying the knot!

As I said before, we’ve been busy!

Hope you all are doing well,

Tad
