Family, a Trip to California, Our 11th and Getting the Garden Ready for Fall…

Hey all, sorry the site’s been so neglected. We’ve been incredibly busy! But with good stuff, so let’s get to it shall we?

In August I made the trip up north to see my brother Tim, his awesome wife Martha, my niece Anna Belle and the new addition to their family Tim or, “Little Timmy” as they like to refer to him. I went solo because we couldn’t afford to send the two of us and board the dogs (which crushed Mel) but we’ll be back up again during the Christmas holiday! It was an amazing visit! Good quality time. I wrote more about it on my blog, if you’d like to read more on my thoughts.
Suffice it to say though, our family’s got such wonderful potential for just about everything!
Just a few weeks later, Melinda and I ventured west to see more family! This time it was to visit her brother Marshall and his girlfriend Julie out in San Francisco! I’d never been to the west coast in my life and it certainly didn’t disappoint! What a cool city! We spent a few days in SF sight seeing, then went north to hike one of my top 10 hikes; the insanely beautiful Lost Coast! After that, we said goodbye to Marshall and Julie and hightailed it to Oregon with a good friend to spent a few days in Portland. I wasn’t too fond of Portland at first, but, after a while, I ended up adoring the city!
Just an incredible trip! Below is a slideshow of a few pics (from literally hundreds) that Mel took and just like her captions say, words don’t do the things we saw justice.
This weekend also saw our 11th wedding anniversary come around. We spent it being still, quiet, thinking about where we were heading. It was wonderful! We spent the day turning over one of our garden beds and retrofitting it with PVC pipe to allow for a winter green house option and/or the ability to add mesh fabric for a no-pesticide option of keeping our vegetables safe. After cleaning up and scrapping under our fingernails, we hopped in the car and ate at a restaurant in Durham that specializes in local ingredients for their entrees, drinks (beer and wine) and desserts. We had a great meal and then caught the movie/documentary “Soul Power” at the Carolina Theatre, which, luckily, I was totally in the mood to watch that night. We had the theatre almost entirely to ourselves because a blues fest was going on downtown. Neat stuff!
So yeah, an awesome day! And yes, an awesome last two months!
