Hey guys,

Sorry the blogging has been sparse. My job’s had me doing some projects and late night maintenance this past week and weekend. These extra hours slowly started to drain my will to put in the extra “face to screen” time that keeping up with this site sometimes entails. I’ve been pretty frazzled but it all seems pretty much done as of this Friday. Just in time for the holidays :) .

We did have some fun this week though!

Ani Difranco came and played at the Carolina Theater in Durham and we definitely attended. She has been a staple in our lives for a LONG time. A folk singer for the most part, her music is, well, it’s a lot things. It’s brutal truth, it’s beautiful love, it’s eloquent poetry, it’s bitter pain and, often, it’s those words that are in all of us that won’t come out for some reason. If you’ve never heard of her before, I encourage you to pick up any of her albums (she has a ton of them but don’t be intimidated, they’re all good). A good starting point would be her album “Reveling / Reckoning”, it is a good representation of her music that is past her harsher feminist (somewhat overtly man-hating) roots and is nestled nicely into he more recent political agenda (Republicans probably wont enjoy Ani), happier stuff. So, if you want to hear an insanely gifted guitar player with a beautiful voice and incredibly important things to say, then check her out. We love her a lot.

What else?

With the frost that came in a couple of weekends ago, we had to take down the garden for the winter. It was kind of sad, but every plant got composted and we’re already planning for more beds next spring! What a success it was this year! We got a TON of food out of that little section of our yard. Plus we learned a lot and I think it awakened something in both of us that we didn’t know was there! Like I said, we can’t wait for next spring and are even toying with planting some winter stuff. We’ll keep you all posted.

Speaking of winter. What happened to fall?

We go from the hottest summer on record, to maybe a few weeks of fall-like weather, to freezing temps!! I’m watching leaves fall out back as I write this and I’m thinking of cranking up the heat to get warmth back into my fingers. Craziness. One things for sure though. We got some pretty amazing color this year! I just wish it was a little longer lived.

Now the frost is on the car pretty much every morning, we’ve broken out the down comforter, and I transferred my sweaters from the guest room closet to the main closet off of our bedroom. Looks like winter’s here folks, now let’s hope for snow!

I mean if it’s gonna be this cold, we might as well get a good old fashioned code-red NC lockdown out of it. ;)

Hope all is well with you!
