9th Annual Nevermore Film Fest!!!
This weekend was the weekend that the Nevermore Film Festival came to town. I make it sound like a traveling circus, it isn’t. What it is, is a horror film festival with little smatterings of SciFi thrown into the mix. It’s hosted annually at the Carolina Theatre in Durham and for the last 3 years, I’ve/we’ve thoroughly enjoyed attending. As many of you know who frequent my blog, horror is a beloved genre of mine and Nevermore embraces that sentiment completely. They mostly show films of the independent variety with a few wide releases injected into the line up. There’s camp, thrillers, out and out gore fests, foreign films, slashers, and opportunities to see unbelievable classics up on the big screen. This year was no different.
In fact, there seemed to be more of an indy push than ever before! Many the films I’d never even heard of before. But there were a few classics thrown in, which were must-sees in my book. One of which was a viewing of the only single 35mm print of “Highlander” available for theatrical exhibition in the United States! Sure, “Highlander” is way out of place in a horror festival, but if you’re a movie geek, this may have been a once and a life time experience! And the best part? I got to experience it with my best friend and soulmate. My wife hasn’t always been a fan of horror films, but I’ve made it my mission to show her what I’ve deemed “good horror” films, and through the years she’s really come to legitimately appreciate the genre for it’s own merits. Now I love trying to seek out those films for her that I think she’d like and enjoy.
It’s like making a mix tape for her…well sort of! ;)
The festival went all weekend long and Mel and I caught two films yesterday and I caught another one tonight. They weren’t really good enough to merit reviews per say, but it was definitely worth documenting the experience. So please check my section in the next few days, you should see something a little more in depth by then. RSS junkies will see it right when it comes up! And to that I say, “good for you!” :D
<cough> <cough>Ahem….
Until then, I’m hitting the hay! It’s been an awesome weekend, but I’m exhausted…
‘Night all!
