Rain Barrels and Death to Pollen!
Man, sorry for the lack of updates these last few weeks! The pollen down here in NC this time of year has become unbearable for me over the years. At first it comes on like a cold, aches, congestion and a sore throat.
Then I finally get wise to what is happening.
Of course, the thick layer of yellow dust everywhere drives the point home even further
, giving me my “oh yeah!” moment of the week, only to be followed by one of many, “aw damn…” moments shortly there after.
At least the worst of it lasts only a couple of weeks and I’m happy to report that as of today, I’m feeling much better!
Unfortunately, due to said allergies, we’ve been kind of dormant. But, that hasn’t stopped me from getting a little bit done around here. Nothing of terribly huge importance, but I did get two more rain barrels (one, which I blogged about on my page briefly and another, which I haven’t mentioned until now) installed along the outside of the house. One barrel is daisy-chained to our first one and the other is around the corner, finally utilizing the roof on the other side of the house!
To date, 2 barrels are completely filled with rain water and the newly installed third one is about half way there. Each barrel holds 55 gallons of water, so, I figure when the drought hits us hard again (the surrounding lakes are finally filling back up or are already full!) we’ll be ready to keep our thriving veggies hydrated! Each barrel stand has been fun to build, but the third one was particularly a blast to install! The rain was pouring down, I was soaked through, mud was everywhere as I excavated with my pick-axe, but the rain was warm and I was happy to be outside!
No, make that ecstatic!
After seeking solace inside for the last two weekends trying (mostly in vain) to escape the pollen, it was great to be back outside, to feel the rain on my face and finally partake in spring!
Hope everyone else can also feel it coming! I think we’ve all earned it!
It’s equally nice to be able to get back to blogging and writing again, which is pretty damn near impossible when your nose is literally dripping like a leaky faucet 24/7.
As always, I hope you all are well.
Take care,
Tad
PS: We finally got around to watching Sean Penn’s “Into The Wild” and I can’t say much more than what’s already been said about the film, but, if you’re like us and haven’t gotten around seeing it. Please check it out. It’s a pretty profound, not to mention true, story about one person living his life emphatically on his own terms.
‘Beautiful film and I’ve heard the book is even better!
