Been a while folks and I apologize for that.

Mel got a late spring cold so she’s been down for the count and I recently went up to help my brother Tim and his family move into their new home in Vermont (New England is Mel and I’s old stompin’ grounds!).

So, needless to say, it’s been a bit hectic.  But we have been up to some pretty cool stuff!

First up!  We’ve mentioned them in a previous post, but we got to catch one of our favorite bands, Cloud Cult, in Carborro two Mondays ago at Local 506!

It was an outstanding show and they were everything we hoped they could be!  They make us so happy, hopeful and grateful all at once.  Hopefully they can do the same for you! Check ‘em out!  Also of note, for you eco-conscious folks out there you should really read about how they’ve managed their own label, distribution, and production of their music.  It’s astounding the lengths they’ve gone to!  They are truly the real deal. Read more about their efforts here.

new raised bed

Next up!  We finished the third garden bed weeks ago and it’s starting to serve us well, more beds mean more food!  This year we’re giving it a go at raising  a crop from heirloom seeds!  Which awesome but honestly, we’ve been biting our nails quite bit because last year’s crop was from seedlings which is comparatively easier (because the guess work eliminated somewhat).

But luckily, it’s starting to look like our fears were entirely for naught!

We’re not scott free yet, Mel just transplanted a bunch from the egg cartons to the new bed this morning and the soil’s been drying out faster than we’d like.

But I gotta admit, this is a damn good start! :D

Also… as noted on my site, and here on the front page, we added two more rain barrels to our cistern network.  They’ve all worked out perfectly and all three are full!!  The covenants in our community allows rain barrels (obviously) but one was out in plain view to the bulk of my neighbors so I thought I’d create an enclosure for it so folks didn’t have to see an ugly black barrel hanging out in my back yard.  It took an afternoon (in the rain!  SWEET!) of hard work but I think it came out pretty great!

Now the barrel’s completely covered and I made a little door to get to the spigot!

Definitely a fun weekend project!

Now I just gotta create something small for this one!

<big sigh>

Add a hefty dash of “everyday life” and you get a stunning lack of blogging from us!  Mel’s up to her usual stuff with a few really cool things in the hopper that are consuming a large chunk of her free time.  You can read all about it here!

That’s it for now!  I hope you all are well!

All the best,

Tad
